This week in Math we learned about the metric system of measuring. There are 10 millimeters in a centimeter, 10 centimeters in a decimeter, one hundred centimeters in a meter, 10 decimeters in a meter, and 1,000 meters in a kilometer.
This week in Science we learned about biodiversity. If you take even one species out of a food chain, the whole food chain is effected.
This week in Language Arts, we learned about sensory images. Sensory images are when you describe something using the five senses--sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste. We also learned how to use the Table of Contents in the front of a book.
This week we had a birthday for Roy! He brought in brownies.
This week was so exciting!

This week was trip-erific!
This week we had a field trip to the Capitol and the Michigan Historical Museum on Tuesday. In the Capitol we go to lay on the glass floor and look into the dome 170 feet up. In the museum we saw a fake copper mine and got to touch a giant piece of copper.
In Language Arts, we finished Stone Fox and took that quiz.
In Math, we continued learning about measuring pounds, ounces, cups, ounces, quarts, pints, gallons, feet, yards, miles and inches.
In Success Time, we changed groups based on our NWEA testing scores.
In Science, we learned about consumers--herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores.
This week we went back in History.

This week was amazingly awesome!
This week we started Science! We have been talking about habitats and photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a process that plants use to make energy. Plants need water, energy from the sun, and carbon dioxide to carry on photosynthesis. Chlorophyll needs to be in the plant. Chlorophyll is what makes the leaves green and it is what traps the energy from the sun. The end result of photosynthesis is sugar. The waste products are oxygen and water. Plants are called producers because they can make their own sugar. Every other living thing depends on plants for this energy.
In Language Arts, we did Animal Alliterations. We made a sentence about an animal and then we illustrated it on a website called Queeky. This week we also read Chapters 1 and 2 in Stone Fox. It is a really good book.
In Math this week, we started a unit on Measuring. We have worked on measuring length. We have learned inches, feet, yards, and miles. There are 12 inches in a foot, 3 feet in a yard (or 36 inches), and 1,760 yards in a mile.
We had an assembly about No Bullying. The presenter did some really cool basketball tricks but he was also teaching us about not bullying. You shouldn’t bully because you should treat others the way you want to be treated. We also learned that you should treat others the way they want to be treated.
We also had our first substitute this week. Mrs. Tomlin had to be gone Friday afternoon, so we had Mr. Wallace. We were perfect for him. Mrs. Tomlin will be so proud when she reads his note on Monday.
On Wednesday we had a Student of the Month Assembly. Will was our Student of the Month for Responsibility. Our next goal is Safety. Kylie was Writer of the Month.
This week was science-explosionable!
P.S.—Next Tuesday we go on our trip to Lansing. We will be leaving at 8:00, so don’t be late. We need to bring a sack lunch and a drink. Everything needs to be able to be thrown away.
This week was turkey-tastic!
